  8.       DESCRIPTION:
  9.  
  10.       Insty is a configurable installation program which program authors
  11.       can set up for their specific needs and distribute with their
  12.       programs.
  13.  
  14.       Many programs use a BATCH-FILE installation. INSTY has many
  15.       advantages over a batch-file. Just a few follow.
  16.  
  17.       INSTY offers many features including:
  18.  
  19.           Checks for missing files
  20.           Checks for invalid drive/directory input
  21.           Checks for sufficient disk space
  22.           3 optional sets of files installed in different locations 
  23.           Up to 100 files total per installation
  24.           Does not use the DOS copy command
  25.           Can be aborted by end-user (while installing) and removes files
  26.           Can be set up to add directory to PATH of end-user
  27.           Set up your chosen default target drive/directory
  28.           Nice and easy to use user-interface
  29.           Target directory can be up to 30 characters long

  38.       REQUIREMENTS:
  39.  
  40.       INSTY should require nothing more than 256K RAM and a color
  41.       monitor.

  44.       INSTRUCTIONS:
  45.  
  46.       To set up INSTY to be distributed to your program users, type
  47.       INSTY SETUP and you will go to the internal instructions and
  48.       SETUP screen.
  49.  
  50.       SETUP creates a file: INSTY.INI which must be distributed with
  51.       your program. This file contains data which INSTY.EXE needs to
  52.       complete your installation. If INSTY.INI is not found, an error
  53.       message will apeear and the program will terminate.
  54.       
  55.       Although some error checking is done at the SETUP area for valid
  56.       entry of Directory/Drive and file names, be careful to enter
  57.       this data correctly since there is only so much checking possible
  58.       before all of your program files are grouped together for dist-
  59.       ribution.

  61.       The internal instructions are fairly complete so only what is
  62.       not there will be found here, as well as any updates.
  63.  
  64.       The first prompt at SETUP will be for how many files you want to
  65.       install. This is the number of files in the FIRST group. 
  66.       If you are not installing any more GROUPS or SETS of files
  67.       (optional files) then input your TOTAL here.
  68.       If you do want to install optional files, when prompted for
  69.       how many sets (0-3) answer with the number of sets (or groups) of
  70.       optional files you want to install.

  72.       To complete SETUP, you should have the following information
  73.       ready:
  74.  
  75.              Number of files (for each group) not to exceed 100
  76.              Default destination PATH (for each group)
  77.              Your Program Name to appear on screen
  78.              File Names (listed per group)
  79.              Group Names (which prompt users for optional installations)

  82.       You can also give a name to each group of optional files such as
  83.       GRAPHICS or PROJECTS or whatever suits your need. When the end-user
  84.       is done installing the main files, they will be prompted as to
  85.       whether they want to install the Optional files, and the name
  86.       will be part of the prompt.

  88.       Note that if you want a directory added to the end-user's PATH
  89.       you can only do so with the FIRST target directory, not with the
  90.       Optional sets (if any). If their PATH is too long it will
  91.       not be added, OR if the target directory is found in their
  92.       PATH statment of the AUTOEXEC.BAT it will not be changed. In
  93.       any of these cases, they will be given a message advising them.

  95.       Although the INSTY.INI is a text-file I don't recommend editing
  96.       it with a text-editor.

  125.         except for a small copying/distribution fee by distributors.
